Like the 60,000+ at the Emirates Stadium in North London, and the millions around the world, the Bay Area Gooners gathered at Maggie McGarry’s Irish Pub in San Francisco to watch their beloved Gunners take on FC Barcelona in the first leg of their Champions League match-up.
By kick-off, the pub was packed to standing room only. Regular attendees rubbed shoulders with first-timers, as well as Gooners from all over the world. Barcelona scored first and the first half ended leaving us feeling a bit deflated, but not defeated.
Robin van Persie would get an equalizer in the 78th minute and about five minutes later, Andrei Arshavin would send Arsenal supporters around the globe into a frenzied celebration. At Maggie’s it looked like this:
